Leaving the playthrough options open for potential canonmates, with the exception of Merrill's personal quests being done- with Merrill allowed to fix the mirror.
Personality:
Merrill is a cheerful young woman with all the nervous energy of a chipmunk. She's energetic and scatterbrained, but always does her best. She often comes off as stupid, but that's not necessarily true, she has simply been very sheltered from people, both human and even elven to a degree. The Dalish as a whole are very reclusive and do their very best not to interact with humans, while she was also the Keeper's First. This means that since she was taken into the clan, she was separated from the rest as she received private teachings in magic and elven lore from the clan's Keeper. This has left her very socially stunted, so she struggles to read sarcasm and generally trusts people at face value. She's terrible at lying and being covert, and has blown her groups cover before by innocently pointing out when one of the members was lying. She also second guesses herself a lot, often neglecting to mention something that may be of import because she feels as though the other members of the group might know the situation better than her.
Attention and staying on track is another thing Merrill struggles with. Her thoughts can jump from subject to subject incredibly rapidly, which can make following how she came to certain conclusions an adventure. Such as the time she recommended a group member get a pet, when asked what made her think he needed one, she mentioned seeing a noblewoman in a coat, which drove the conversation down a completely different route. It's only made more obvious when she gets nervous, as she has the tendency to ramble, giving a bit of a map to her thought process.
As easy as it is to simply peg her as stupid, that's not the case. She is well adept at magic, which requires a good amount of focus, and being the Keeper's first, she has studied all the elven lore available to her clan. There's also the matter of the eluvian, an elven artifact so ancient its original purpose had been all but lost to time. Merrill single-handedly managed to cleanse it of an evil taint, and repair it, despite knowing next to nothing about it at first.
She did have a little bit of help in gaining the power to cleanse the mirror though, and it's this that earns her great distrust from her clan and many others that she encounters. Merrill is a blood mage, and while not inherently evil on its own, it is very easy to abuse. Not to mention the fact that she learned it from a demon. In her mind it was simply the logical thing to do, she did not have enough lyrium to cleanse the mirror, an obstacle easily remedied by augmenting her spell with her own blood. Despite her claims that she was careful, the entirety of her clan ostracized her, thinking that she may either carry the mirror's initial taint, or that she's somehow being influenced by the demon. It is something that truly breaks her heart to see, but knowing how much her people have lost, she refuses to pass up this opportunity to take just a little of it back. Even in the form of a creepy mirror that doesn't even show reflections.
In spite of that weight she carries, she does her best to bring a little joy to those around her and help whenever she can. She will stop by friends houses and water their plants (she may also do this for strangers given her habit to wander places she shouldn't), she'll do her best to talk to friends who have gone through something hard, even if she doesn't always see eye-to-eye with them. She's often rebuffed, but she doesn't stop trying.

Why?: As someone who is willing to go through extremes for the same of her people, I think she would really flourish if given the opportunity to help many, and the feelings of appreciation and acceptance would do her wonders. Also given her nature to accidentally ruin things because she was too trusting and/or naive, is very fitting to a lot of lore of ancient gods.

Mielikki: Finnish goddess of forests the hunt, prone to helping hurt or animals in danger. Fitting for Merril since she is exactly the kind of person that would wander into someones yard to take care of their chickens.
Sulis: Celtic mother goddess of live-giving and nourishing, also curses. Fitting for Merrill due to the sheer whiplash that comes with such a sweet caring individual wielding such a toxic and destructive magic.
Flora: Roman goddess of flowers, spring, and youth. Fitting for Merrill due to her innocent personality, and tendency to wander places she shouldn't to pick flowers.

A "phone" they called it. It was a peculiar little device, like a mirror, but not really. I didn't show her reflection very well, but it showed her lots of other things! And it could make these little instant paintings, then everyone would share their little paintings with each other and it was absolutely delightful!
People certainly seemed to be very sour about things though, and she couldn't for the life of her figure out why. Most of the pictures didn't seem so bad, and yet people found something to argue about. Thus Merrill had taken it upon herself to try and send everyone pictures that would make them happy. Like the little cat she just met! Oh it was a cute one, all covered in big spots like a cow. Perhaps she should give it a name! Hmmm... cowspots. Yes that's perfect! But oh what's this? There's another, tinier cat, followed by another- oh Cowspots had kittens!
Merrill squat down and readied the phone for the pictures, she first took a picture of Cowspots, then of the kitten going after her toes- she would name that one whiskers. Then of course she had to take a picture of the one chasing after it's mother's tail, otherwise it might get jealous. She would name that one... Baron Squishy-face. Now for that kitten sitting off to the side all by himself looking grumpy. She shouldn't name it after people she knows.That wouldn't be very nice... but oh it sort of looked like Fenris too. Just smaller, and furrier, and less glowy... and not like him at all really aside from looking unhappy with pointy ears.
Well, the picture of "Little Fenris" was posted. No going back now. Maybe they could be friends if they met.
